Traffic Fury

So, I have decided to start the "Idiot Drivers" blog. The name was a toss up between that and "Why I Hate Joburg Traffic". But, since I myself am a Cape Town driver up here in Gauteng, I realise that bad driving, although extremely prevelant in the City of Gold is not a problem limited soley to it's provincial borders.

This blog has been born thru such a mix of things. My deep belief that I should be Minister of Transport or at least Head of Gauteng Roads & Traffic and my every day annoyance with someone on the road. I don't remember ever being this frustrated in my days driving round the Southern Peninsula, but once up in Joburg, I spent hours in the traffic devising alternative solutions to our many, many road problems & violations.

This site is an alternative to my original want of some sort of web-cam setup on my dashboard that at the click of a button on my steering wheel would submit pics of the nearby offending drivers directly to the Traffic Department.

And don't missunderstand, I'm well aware that we all have, at least once in our lives, run that red light. But this shouldn't be the norm and one should feel that little pang of "Uh Oh!" on the rare occasion it occurs. The same for the random phonecall you might not be able to miss while driving (?) I myself do not have a hands-free kit. I also don't answer my phone while driving. Well, mostly I don't ;)

So, this website is dedicated to all the annoying people in traffic who think they need to get somewhere faster than I do - really, unless you have a pregnant lady in the backseat, you don't. I need an outlet for my traffic improvement ideas. And I'm not going to ignore those truly silly number plates that people pay thousands for either ... some of them are really questionable - hopefully they'll all appear here at some stage ;)

And then there are the Car Guards. Job creation in true South African style. We're being directed into & out of parking spots by people who've probably never driven in their lives. We're tipping them for standing around in the theory that it somehow means our cars are safer ... are they? And if they're not, why are we tipping? Because people surely are. They say there are car guards who are earning more than our police officers, how can that be possible? Then, what sort of world are we living in ...

So here is all my traffic fury for your enjoyment :)
